PRELIMINARY DRAFT FOR THE RESTORATION AND ENHANCEMENT OF SAN DOMENICO COMPLEX
concept: NCB Architettura
“A city is not measured by its length and width, but on the reach of his vision and the height of his dreams.”

The guidelines that have led to the definition of the preliminary project for the San Domenico Complex were determined by a series of reflections and analysis conducted on two level orders: the urban dimension of the intervention – the relationship with the urban and land overall scale – and its architectural specificity – the shape of the building in relation to the site.
The evaluation of historical data, typological, static, functional and connection data have led to consider the state of fact as a platform for mapping the possible scenarios of intervention.
The design choice is to establish a clear functional setting for the complex, through a series of architectural and restoration actions, connecting places and artifacts each other and with the city, reinterpreting the historic value, typological and documentation of existing buildings through the nature of the new uses.
The preliminary draft is moving on a dual interpretation and solution scale of the elements that characterize the complex:
• open spaces and their interconnection functional compared to the old town and the buildings of the complex itself;
• functional and architectural value of buildings arranged around the cloister and the walls of the complex.
